What is Infrared Wellness Cocoon therapy?

What is the difference between NEAR, MID & FAR Infrared?

NEAR INFRARED

NEAR infrared light delivers energy to the cells, stimulating healing and relieving pain. Infrared light therapy has been proven effective by hundreds of studies all over the globe, is 100% natural and has no known adverse side effects. It penetrates the body reaching deep into soft tissues, muscles, joints, and bone. Near infrared is absorbed by photo-receptors in each cell. Once absorbed, the light energy kicks off a whole series of metabolic events, stimulating the body’s natural processes on a cellular level. There is an increase in blood flow, allowing the parts of the body to receive the oxygen and nutrients they need in order to function more effectively. Cell regeneration is stimulated. Inflammation and pain are reduced.

MID INFRARED

Because mid infrared wavelengths penetrate deeper into the body, they are beneficial for increasing circulation. So much so that mid infrared therapy mirrors the benefits of a passive cardiovascular workout! What should I wear to a session?

Our Infrared Wellness Cocoon is in a lockable room, and is completely private so you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. Most people wear bathers or absolutely nothing. Please note, we don't have shower facilities available.

BEFORE YOUR SESSION

SHOWER - Please come to your session hygienically clean.

HYDRATE - Most people do not drink enough water to begin with and now that you are using infrared therapy and sweating, it is even more important to stay properly hydrated. Always drink plenty of water before, during and after your Infrared Wellness Cocoon session.

Should I eat before my session? It is advised not to eat at least one to two hours prior to your Infrared Wellness Cocoon session to avoid any ill feelings.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME?

  • YOURSELF, ready to switch off and relax.

  • We have towels available for a fee of $2, OR you can bring a beach towel to lay on.

  • PLENTY OF WATER - We have water available. Water acts as the vehicle to remove the toxins from your body. Drinking water before your session will maximise perspiration during your session. Drinking water after will keep your fluid levels up after sweating.

  • A comfortable clothing!

IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN PROPER HYDRATION LEVELS DURING INFRARED THERAPY. Dehydration will actually increase carbohydrate utilisation and cause less fat to be burned for energy. We highly recommend drinking a minimum of 1 litre of water prior to entering the Infrared Wellness Cocoon.

DURING YOUR SESSION

DON'T SWEAT THE TEMP Infrared therapies are a wellness experience where the results are cumulative. This means the more you come in, the better you will feel. Just like working out or dieting, it will take a few sessions before benefits begin to manifest.
You may notice that it takes 10-20 minutes to break a sweat in your first session. This is because our infrared wellness cocoon is heating your body directly, passively raising your core temperature 2-3 degrees, rather than simply heating your skin with hot air. This is a defining difference from a traditional or community sauna you might have used before. As your body becomes more accustomed to raising your core temperature on a regular basis, your sweat will become more excessive and start sooner into your session. In the event that any dizziness, light-headedness, pain or discomfort is experienced, immediately discontinue the infrared wellness cocoon use.

AFTER YOUR SESSION

When you sweat, you don’t just lose water. Your body also becomes depleted of electrolytes, which are vital for body function. So, in addition to water, you will need to drink / eat something that is rich in the electrolytes lost in sweat, such as sodium, calcium, potassium, among others

WHAT SHOULD I REFRAIN FROM? We ask that you do not apply any skin products, lotions and oils, to your skin before your session. These items may block pores and affect perspiration as well as stain our materials.

The use of drugs, medication or alcohol prior to or during the infrared wellness cocoon session may lead to dizziness or unconsciousness. Please consult your physician if you are in doubt of your ability to use the infrared wellness cocoon for health reasons. When you finish your Infrared Wellness Cocoon session, you will continue to perspire as your body naturally cools down —refresh and revive with the cold water provided if you run out of your own.

Who should be careful when using Infrared Therapy? People with cardiovascular conditions or people who are prone to bleeding, people over 55 years old. We do not recommend the infrared therapy for pregnant women. Anyone suffering from health conditions, or anyone who is unsure about using the Infrared Wellness Cocoon, should always consult their doctor before use.

How in the infrared wellness cocoon cleaned?

Our Infrared wellness cocoon is cleaned with cleaning products. However, the other benefits of infrared heat is that it is a natural disinfectant and kills 99% of bacteria, meaning the infrared wellness cocoon is a naturally clean environment.

Is the infrared wellness cocoon safe? Yes infrared therapy is safe. While traditional saunas use heated rocks to increase the temperature (which can also make it hard to breathe), infrared therapy heat the body directly, not the air, making it a very comfortable experience. During infrared therapy your core temperature rises slowly, which gentle releases unwanted toxins from your body.

INFORMATION ON CONTRAINDICATIONS AND CAUTIONS

  • Cardiovascular conditions Individuals with cardiovascular conditions or problems (hypertension / hypotension), congestive heart failure, impaired coronary circulation or those who are taking medications, which might affect blood pressure, should exercise extreme cautionwhen exposed to prolonged heat. Heat stress increases cardiac output, blood flow, in an effort to transfer internal body heat tothe outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature. We discourage using the Infrared Wellness Cocoon if you have congestive heart failure or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

  • Alcohol / Alcohol Abuse - Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “Sweat Out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore they may not realize it when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress.

  • Chronic Conditions / Diseases Associated With A Reduced Ability To Sweat Or Perspire Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors and Diabetes with Neuropathy can impair sweating.

  • Insensitivity to Heat - An individual who has insensitivity to heat should not use the Infrared Wellness Cocoon.

  • Pregnancy - Pregnant women should not use the Infrared Wellness Cocoon because fetal damage can occur with an elevated body temperature.

  • Fever - An individual that has a fever should not use the Infrared Wellness Cocoon.

  • Joint Injury - If you have a recent joint injury, it should not be heated for the first 48 hours or until the hot and swollen symptoms subside. If you have a joint or joints that are chronically hot and swollen, these joints may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind.Vigorous heating is strictly contra-indicated in cases of enclosed infections such as dental, in joints or in any other tissues.

  • Pacemaker / Defibrillator - The magnets used to assemble the units of the Infrared Wellness Cocoon can interrupt the pacing and inhibit the output of pacemakers. If you have a pacemaker or defibrillator, you should not use this Sauna.

  • Medications - Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Some over the counter drugs such as antihistamines may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke. During your session, slightly open the door of the Infrared Wellness Cocoon to allow cool air to come in if you are feeling too hot.

  • Children - The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating.

  • The Elderly - The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core bodytemperature. During your session, slightly open the door of the Infrared Wellness Cocoon to allow cool air to come in if you are feeling too hot.

  • Menstruation - Heating of the low back area of women during the menstruation may temporarily increase their menstrual flow. Some women endure this process to gain the pain relief whereas others simply choose to avoid Infrared Wellness Cocoon use during that time of the month.

  • Implants - Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. The usage of the infrared therapy must be discontinued if you experience pain near any such implants. Silicone does absorbinfrared energy. Implanted silicone or silicone prostheses for nose or ear replacement may be warmed by the infrared waves. It is still advised that you checkwith your surgeon to be certain.
